The Walton Museum opened in 1992 and was a great celebration of fans and numerous cast members. The Museum is open from March through Novermber, closed for holidays. Visiting hours are 10am-4pm.

What About Skyler Virginia?

Skyler at one time was a booming town as many citizens worked in the soapstone plant. It had a hospital, hotels, movie theaters, nine general merchandise stores, bank, Etc. The soapstone produced was used for laboratory countertops, fireplaces sinks etc. the plant is still open however Schuyler is now a small quiet rural town.

Why Is The Museum Here?

The creator of "The Waltons" Earl Hamner grew up in this small town and attended the high school where the museum is now located. "The Waltons" was a TV miniseries which featured Earlham nurse family and boyhood home and experiences.

About The Museum

All the rooms in the museums are replicas of the studio set in California. John-boy, the main character based on Earl Hamner himself, his room displays his writing desk and his eyeglasses. The model radio used in the show's living room is also on display. The replica kitchen has period cabinetry, a wooden icebox and butter churn. The museum also includes a wedding dress used on the show along with displays of soapstone from the quarry.

Ike Godsey's Store and Souvenir Shop

This room is a replica of the old country store and post office. It is also a souvenir shop and one can send a postcard and stamped from "Waltons Mountain, Virginia".
